Scholarships & Financial Awards

Mercy is fully committed to providing access to a comprehensive Catholic high school education to students of diverse socio-economic levels. Below, you will find information regarding scholarships and financial awards offered by Mercy High School and other awards offered by external organizations.
Mercy High School scholarships are granted to students in the top 25% of applicants each year who:
  • Show genuine interest in attending Mercy
  • Excel academically
  • Exhibit leadership
  • Demonstrate high interest in co-curricular activities
  • Participate generously in church and community service
 
Scholarship honorees are announced each February. There is no separate application for Mercy scholarships. Candidates will be invited for an interview in January based upon their High School Placement Test scores.

Financial Awards

Mercy High School offers a plethora of financial awards outside of the top applicant scholarships. When you apply to Mercy, you are automatically considered for any financial awards you may qualify for. No additional application is needed.

  • Legacy Scholarship

    Mercy High School awards legacy scholarships to students who have alumnae mothers, grandmothers, or aunts. 
  • Spirit of Mercy Award

    The Spirit of Mercy Award recognizes students who, through their academic work, personal essay, or extracurricular activities and interests, exemplify the unique spirit and inspiring mission of the Sisters of Mercy. This award recognizes in the awardee the qualities of a Mercy Girl—she is generous, compassionate, and respectful; is smart, inquisitive, and hard-working; open-minded, well-rounded, and thoughtful; proud of herself, proud of her friends, and proud of her school; has integrity, is passionate, and appreciates all that she has; and is committed to spiritual growth, service to others, and justice in the world!
  • Alumnae Association Scholarship

    This scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate a capacity for leadership and service in the finest tradition of our dedicated alumnae. Established by the Mercy High School Alumnae Association, this scholarship continues the legacy of more than 8,000 alumnae who have graduated from Mercy High School. These Women of Mercy are committed to making a Mercy education possible for the next generation of bright and promising Mercy Girls.
  • Endowed Scholarship in honor of Amy R. Gibson

    Established in 2016 by a generous anonymous benefactor, The Endowed Scholarship in Honor of Amy R. Gibson is a full tuition, 4-year scholarship to be awarded to the most outstanding student in the entering freshman class. The scholarship honors Amy Gibson, a gifted English teacher and academic leader whose passion for intellectual discovery set the highest standards for Mercy Girls. This visionary educator established the first signature programs at Mercy: the Catherine McAuley Honors Program and the Mentor Program.
  • Catherine McAuley Honors Scholarship

    This prestigious scholarship honors students who, based on their exceptional middle school records and top High School Placement Test scores, show extraordinary academic promise. This scholarship honors the remarkable vision of Venerable Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy, who transformed countless lives through the creation of a global network of educational and healthcare ministries.
  • Gordon Hilmer Scholarship

    This scholarship provides generous support for bright and promising Mercy Girls who have strong academic records and show a commitment to community life. Recipients may also have a special interest in and talent for the arts. Dr. Paul Hilmer, a former faculty member at Mount Saint Agnes College and a beloved member of the Mercy High School Science Department from 1980 until 1992, believed deeply in the power of a Mercy education. Dr. Hilmer established this scholarship in memory of his brother, J. Gordon Hilmer.
  • Hall Sisters Scholarship

    This scholarship recognizes students who, through their academic work, personal essay, or extracurricular activities and interests, are strong applicants to Mercy High School. Established by former Mercy High School Trustee Suzanne Hall Price ’67, this scholarship honors a special Mercy family legacy. The Hall sisters—Nancy ’65, Patricia ’66 and Suzanne ’67—are all Women of Mercy who are deeply dedicated to their alma mater and committed to supporting the next generation of Mercy Girls.
  • Joan Welsh Scholarship

    The Joan Welsh Scholarship recognizes students who, through their academic work, personal essay, or extracurricular activities and interests, distinguish themselves as strong applications to Mercy High School. This award recognizes the special qualities of a Mercy Girl that will enrich the Mercy High School community.
  • Mount Saint Agnes Scholarship in honor of Sister Mary Christophe Bourke & Sister Mary Neal Corcoran

    In 2016, the alumnae of Mount Saint Agnes High School established a scholarship in honor of their beloved principal, Sister Mary Christopher Bourke+, and teacher, Sister Mary Neal Corcoran+. This scholarship recognizes students who exemplify the inspiring mission of the Sisters of Mercy and the spirit of these two remarkable Women of Mercy.
  • The Rosemary de la Reguera P’67, ’69, ’75 Scholarship

    This scholarship provides generous support for bright and promising Mercy Girls who have strong academic records and show a commitment to community life. This scholarship was established by Mrs. de la Reguera’s family in her memory. Together with her husband Frank, Mrs. de la Reguera sent three daughters, Raquel ’67, Mary ’69, and Georgia ’75, to Mercy. The legacy continued into the next generation.
  • Seraphia Scholarship

    The Seraphia Scholarship makes an excellent Mercy education possible to bright and promising Mercy Girls. This award was established by the trustees and head of Mercy High School in 2007. Over the years, many generous alumnae, trustees, and friends have contributed to this fund.
  • Sister Marie Foley Scholarship

    In 2016, trustees, alumnae, and friends established The Sister Marie Foley Scholarship as a memorial to a member of the Mercy faculty for more than 40 years. A gifted leader, adviser, and teacher at Mercy High School from 1973 until 2013, Sr. Marie helped generations of Mercy Girls become Women of Mercy. She imagined remarkable futures for them.
  • Diane Hill Taylor Scholarship

    Established in honor of Mrs. Diane Hill Taylor, this scholarship is intended to “support young African-American women who graduated from Baltimore City public middle schools or from the Archdiocese of Baltimore Catholic middle schools. . . and who by their choice of courses or by their volunteer and extracurricular activities have demonstrated evidence of an interest in service to others.”
  • Stephanie M. Beran Scholarship

    This award provides generous support for bright and promising Mercy Girls who have strong academic records and show a commitment to community life. Established by Mercy alumna Stephanie M. Beran ’76, this scholarship reflects her desire to make a Mercy education possible to the next generation of bright and promising Mercy Girls.
  • The Thelma Jean Ullrich Scholarship

    This memorial scholarship recognizes students who, through their academic work, personal essay, or extracurricular activities and interests, reflect the spirit of Thelma Ullrich. Established in 2015 through the Thomas More Project, this scholarship was created by the family of Thelma Ullrich, a teacher and principal in Mount Clemens, Michigan. An active member of Mount Clemens First Presbyterian Church, Ms. Clemens loved the beauty of nature, supported music and the arts, and gave generously to Catholic schools providing assistance to those in financial need.
  • William A. Stilling P’87 Scholarship

    This award provides generous support for academically talented Mercy Girls as they prepare for college. Established by Jacqueline A. Stilling ’82 and her brother, William J. Stilling, this award honors their father, William A. Stilling. Mr. Stilling valued education deeply and this award in his memory is intended to make a Mercy education possible for academically talented Mercy Girls who will go on to excel in college.

  • G.B. Charities

    G.B. Charities (GBC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the Baltimore Community through the education of its youth. GBC sponsors promising students from hard working, low income families living in at-risk areas, contributing to their tuition at accredited faith based schools. By providing students with a stable, nurturing educational environment, GBC offers them the opportunity to reach their highest potential. For more information, visit G.B. Charities, Inc.
  • Knott Scholarships

    The Knott Scholarship Funds have been providing merit based, full-tuition scholarships for academically talented Catholic elementary and secondary school students for 41 years. Awarded in the 4th grade for grades 5 through 8, or 8th grade for grades 9 through 12, scholarships are awarded to Catholic students in the Archdiocese of Baltimore who wish to attend a Catholic school.   • The Broadening Options and Opportunities for Students Today (BOOST) Scholarship

    The Broadening Options and Opportunities for Students Today (BOOST) Scholarship Program provides scholarship awards for some students who are eligible for the free or reduced–price school meals program (FARMs) to attend a participating nonpublic school. For full eligibility requirements and instructions on how to apply, please visit the Maryland State Department of Education website.
  • The Daniel Rudd Scholarship

    The Daniel Rudd Scholarship Fund is administered by the Office and Board of African American Catholic Ministries in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. The scholarship, named after the founder of the National Black Catholic Congress, is open to low-income Catholic students currently residing in the metropolitan area of Baltimore and enrolled in a Catholic elementary or high school within the Archdiocese of Baltimore.   • The Frederick M. Gossman Memorial High School Scholarship

    is designed to assist sons and daughters of members of the Knights of Columbus in paying tuition at accredited Catholic high schools, three grants of $1,500 per year, for up to four years, will be awarded. Awards are made on the basis of academic excellence, personal qualifications, and financial need. For more information, please visit the Knight of Columbus Scholarships page.
  • The Gary Lee Ryon Jr. Memorial Foundation, Inc. Scholarship

    Sponsored by the Gary Lee Ryon Jr. Memorial Foundation, Inc., scholarships are awarded to 8th grade students accepted into a Catholic high school in the Archdiocese of Baltimore or Washington. Applications must be postmarked no later than May 1 of the applicant’s eighth grade year. For more information, please email Betty Ryon at eryon0037@aol.com.
  • The Theresa F. Truschel Charitable Foundation, Inc.

    The Theresa F. Truschel Charitable Foundation, Inc. was established to provide scholarships to students attending Catholic schools at all levels and grants to Catholic institutions and organizations helping those who require temporary financial assistance to support themselves and their families.   • The William J. O’Brien Memorial High School Scholarship

    The William J. O’Brien Memorial High School Scholarship awards three grants of $1,500 per year for up to four years. Eligibility for a grant under this program is open to Catholic students who are residents of the State of Maryland. Affiliation with the Knights of Columbus is not required. However, children and grandchildren of a member of a Knights of Columbus council within the jurisdiction of Maryland are also eligible. Applicants must have been officially accepted at or must be students at accredited Catholic High Schools. Applications will be judged on academic excellence, personal qualifications, and financial need. Continued support after the first year is contingent on continued academic success.
