Visual Arts Program

The Visual Arts Program

Mercy’s four-year Visual Arts Program offers robust opportunities to explore the elements, principles, and history of art as students learn to work in a variety of media. The Visual Arts Program teaches Mercy Girls to develop powerful skills of observation as they hone their techniques.  

This program is open to incoming ninth graders and culminates in the creation of a portfolio which can be used for applying to college or for scholarships. In the past, Mercy Girls have submitted their portfolios to the College Board for Advanced Placement Studio Art exams, resulting in college credits earned prior to high school graduation. Many Visual Arts Program graduates are currently working in the field as artists, curators, graphic designers, or arts educators.  
A variety of visual art classes are offered each year, covering a wide-range of media including drawing, ceramics, photography, and digital media. Classes give our Mercy Girls a multi-faceted opportunity to learn creative thought processes through the production of their works as they prepare for their future career as a visual artist.
