Theatre Arts at Mercy

Mercy’s theatre program fosters an appreciation and passion for all aspects of theatre arts. Through a variety of classes and performance opportunities, each Mercy Girl can participate, regardless of her background. The program strives to develop talented artists, as well as enthusiastic audiences who appreciate the history and technique of theatre.

The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Auditorium provides professional-quality facilities, including a dance studio, a choir room, and a 660-seat auditorium, complete with sound and lighting. These impressive spaces support theatre arts at Mercy, as well as our music and dance programs.

Footlighters is Mercy’s theatre company in which students explore various areas of theatre arts including acting and theatre marketing. Footlighters produces a play and musical annually and provides a number of opportunities for students interested in technical theatre to learn more about scenic construction, lighting, costumes, and make-up. Mercy Girls have worked on productions as assistant directors, designers, and more!

Previous productions include: Grease, Clue, The Sound of Music, Decision Height, Into the Woods, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Getting to Know...Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, and This is a Test.
Mercy is home to a chapter of the International Thespian Society, which is the only theatre honor society for middle and high school students in the United States. Affiliation brings credibility and distinction to students, theatre programs, and schools. It is a visible, positive symbol of the quality of Mercy’s theatre program.

The International Thespian Society recognizes, rewards, and encourages student achievement and celebrates the work of students in all aspects of theatre—performance and production. Each student is honored on a national level and gains access to opportunities and resources beyond those of their school.
Join us for this year’s fall production of Soundscapes! Soundscapes is a heartwarming story of a teenager named Iris who experiences synesthesia, a form of neurodivergence that allows individuals to see colors and shapes when they hear music.
