New Dean of Students Announced

We are thrilled to announce our next Dean of Students, Ms. Terri Rinehart.

April 6, 2022

Dear Mercy community,

I am pleased to share with you that, after an extensive search process, Ms. Terri J. Rinehart has been appointed our next dean of students. An experienced educator in Catholic, independent schools, Ms. Rinehart is currently the assistant head of the upper school at Gerstell Academy.

A graduate of Towson University, Ms. Rinehart holds a B.S. in history and secondary education and a minor in geography. She has previously served as a social studies teacher and department chair at two Catholic, independent schools—Maryvale Preparatory School and Trinity School in Ilchester.

As assistant head of Gerstell’s upper school, Ms. Rinehart is a student-center leader committed to creating a positive, joyful school culture that supports academic excellence and student growth. Her duties include leading academic initiatives, mentoring faculty, and coordinating study abroad experiences for students. She teaches both social studies and leadership courses and advises students. Twice Gerstell’s faculty and staff have selected Ms. Rinehart for their prestigious President’s Award!

Ms. Rinehart is delighted that her new work at Mercy will allow her to again be part of a community grounded in faith. In her letter of interest, she wrote, “Mercy’s emphasis on ‘lifelong inquiry, critical thinking, and courageous action’ as well as the commitment to ‘hospitality, service, justice and compassion’ align with values I hold close to my heart. I am excited to see the appreciation shown to the value of every person along with the commitment to maintaining a diverse community, fostering mutual respect, and inspiring all members to strive for true excellence. Mercy is a place where young women are challenged to be learners for life intent on creating a better world and I firmly believe I can help in this mission.”

In advance of beginning her new role on July 1, 2022, Ms. Rinehart will be visiting with us on campus this spring. I look forward to introducing Ms. Rinehart to you! Many thanks for joining me in offering Ms. Rinehart a very warm Mercy welcome and prayers for great success in this new leadership role!

Sincerely,

Kathryn Adelsberger
